Job summary

The Maya Angelou Academy at the DC Department of Corrections seeks a Special Education Teacher/Case Manager to support incarcerated youth with individualized education plans in a secure facility. You will deliver multi-grade coursework and manage IEPs across English/ELA, math, science and history.

In this role you will collaborate with staff to meet IDEA requirements, document progress, and adapt instruction to diverse learning needs, ensuring high quality educational outcomes for scholars.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education or subject field is required.
• Knowledge of IDEA and IEP development.
• OSSE initial certification within 1 year of employment is required/eligible.
• Experience working with opportunity or justice-involved youth is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver multi-grade, multi-content coursework and adapt lessons for varied learning styles and abilities.
• Serve as case manager for students with IEPs and ensure compliance with IDEA.
• Collaborate with colleagues, leadership, and facility staff to deliver a well‑rounded program.
• Perform other duties to maintain a safe and effective teaching and learning environment.
