Job summary

Fort Madison Community School District seeks a dedicated Special Education Teacher for FM Jr/Sr High. The role requires a valid Iowa teaching license, Strat II-BD/LD and Strat II-ID endorsements, and a bachelor's degree in education or related field.

A master's degree is preferred, with prior teaching experience valued. The position emphasizes building positive, inclusive classrooms, MTSS/PBIS alignment, and collaboration with staff to support diverse learners and families.

Qualifications

• Must have valid Iowa Teaching license.
• Strat II-BD/LD Endorsement required, Strat II-ID Endorsement required
• Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
• Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred but not required

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and assess engaging lesson plans aligned with state standards and meet diverse student needs.
• Create and sustain a positive classroom environment; align with PBIS and MTSS to support social, emotional, and behavioral health.
• Utilize varied teaching methods and differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learners.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress using formal and informal assessments; provide timely feedback to students and families.
• Collaborate with colleagues, specialists, and support staff to enhance students' educational experience.
• Communicate with parents and school community regarding student progress and classroom activities.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice to improve effectiveness.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
