Job summary

Saginaw Intermediate School District is seeking a dedicated Bus Driver to safely transport special education students under the Transportation Director. You will manage the bus and passengers to maintain a safe, hazard-free environment for all riders.

Responsibilities include following state rules, performing pre-trip inspections, and coordinating with staff to meet medical, safety, and behavioral needs while maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Commercial driver's license and bus driver's certification required.
• Excellent driving record.
• Experience working with children, especially with special needs preferred.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Lift up to 75 pounds.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Willing to receive additional training.
• Working knowledge of computer keyboarding.

Responsibilities

• Meet the requirements and follow rules established by the Michigan Department of Education and the Saginaw ISD.
• Obey all laws governing operation of a vehicle and school bus.
• Maintain a safe environment on the bus.
• Be responsible for the bus, its equipment, its passengers, and the attendant.
• Complete and document daily pre-trip inspection and report needed repairs.
• Attend CPR/First Aid and other training sessions as directed.
• Work with the bus assistant and district employees to meet medical, safety and behavioral needs of students.
• Be at assigned work site at starting times, ready to perform duties.
• Implement behavior management plans with program staff as appropriate.
• Secure wheelchairs and child restraint systems.
• Keep all student, parent and staff information confidential.
• Maintain a positive attitude in working with students, parents, community members, and other staff.
