Job summary

Buckeye Elementary School District seeks a Paraprofessional A- Self Contained/Side-by-Side to support special education teachers with individualized instruction and IEP implementation, monitor behavior, and assist students with personal needs in a classroom setting.

The role requires AZ DPS IVP clearance, a high school diploma, and CPR/First Aid within 30 days. Position is 10-month, 186 days, 35.50 hours/week, with ASRS benefits and health insurance options.

Qualifications

• Must obtain and maintain AZ DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent (required).
• CPR and First Aid certifications within 30 days of employment.
• Obtain and maintain Nonviolent Physical Crisis Intervention certification (preferred).
• Experience working with school-aged children (preferred).
• Experience working with children with various learning and physical disabilities (preferred).
• Special training in adaptive equipment (may be required).
• Ability to speak fluent Spanish (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher with instructions, creation of classroom materials and setup.
• Provide services in regular classrooms, ESL, special needs, side-by-side or other settings.
• supervise playground, lunchroom, bus area and transportation duties as required.
• Assist and accompany student for inclusion in regular classroom.
• Aid students with personal hygiene, including toileting.
• Assist with cafeteria behavior and use of eating utensils.
• Assist occupational and speech therapists as required.
• Provide a safe environment for special education students to learn.
• Work with students in one-on-one or small group instruction.
• Monitor and supervise in classroom, playground and cafeteria using PBIS.
• Prepare instructional materials and visual aids; photocopy as needed.
• Prepare workstations or learning centers for daily lessons.
• Assist students with reading, writing and math skills.
• Assist in administering District and State tests when needed.
• Assess student needs and modify lessons; document progress.
• Collaborate to ensure appropriate lessons for students.
• Organize and maintain teaching materials; file student work.
• Move about to observe activity and ensure safety across duty stations.
• Maintain legible records of student work with teacher guidance.
• Participate in safety drills and evacuation procedures.
• Report medical and safety issues to supervisor/health center staff.
• Attend trainings to improve knowledge/skills relevant to District needs.
• Practice professional relations with students, staff, and parents.
• Participate in Medicaid Reimbursement logs; training optional.
• May oversee class in teacher's absence; perform other duties.
