Job summary

Crystal Lake Community Consolidated School District #47 is hiring for a Special Education Bus Attendant. The role supports the bus driver with loading and unloading passengers, securing wheelchairs and seats, and ensuring passenger safety on each trip.

The position requires clear verbal communication, ability to manage passengers and follow district procedures. Work mainly inside the bus environment with daily safety considerations and routine PPE as needed.

Qualifications

• Clear and understandable verbal communication skills including two-way radio.
• Reading and writing skills to understand students' needs transported.
• Ability to complete required special-education aide trainings and in-service meetings.
• Ability to cope with illness or injury of a passenger or unexpected events.
• Ability to work efficiently and patiently under pressure and in stressful conditions.

Responsibilities

• Report on time and be on the bus when scheduled.
• Assist Bus Driver in loading/unloading passengers.
• Assist in operating the lift to board/discharge passengers.
• Ensure proper securing of wheelchairs, harnesses, belts, car seats and booster seats.
• Assist in passenger management and communicate with driver using radio when needed.
• Follow Employee Handbook procedures and dress standards, and read applicable rules.
