Job summary

Johnston Public Schools’ Senior High School seeks a Special Education 1:1 Teacher Assistant to support students with disabilities across academic tasks, self-help, communication, mobility, and behavioral needs. The role involves collaboration with teachers and therapists, and assisting in implementing individualized supports.

The paraprofessional will work under certified staff, promoting learning, safety, and positive social interactions while providing dependable, flexible support to students

Qualifications

• Be of good character; meet federal requirements for an instructional classroom assistant.
• High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s Degree or 2 years college in education preferred.
• RI certified Teacher Assistant Training or equivalent; ParaPro score required.

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teacher with reinforcement of curriculum in core areas.
• Work with students individually or in small groups to support learning and behavior.
• Monitor and record student progress and adherence to behavior plans.
• Set up work areas, displays, and materials; assist on field trips when needed.
• Provide supportive, patient, and empathic interactions with students.
