Job summary

State of South Carolina seeks a Special Assistant Attorney General to prosecute criminal cases with SCDC ties before the state grand jury and across circuits, upon approval by the Attorney General's Office.

The attorney will provide legal advice on warrants, evidence, and legal issues, assist with FOIA requests, subpoenas, and rule 5, and draft briefs and oral arguments. After-hours availability and ongoing legal updates are required.

Qualifications

A juris doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and experience as a practicing attorney.
Must be a member in good standing with the South Carolina bar.
Prosecutorial experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Prosecute criminal cases with SCDC nexus before the SC state grand jury and in all judicial circuits throughout the state.
Provide legal advice on search warrants, evidence, and future legal issues to investigators.
Assist in determination of documentation to be released to FOIAS, subpoenas, Rule 5, etc.
Prepare briefs and oral arguments; research legal issues as needed.
Keep the Division Director and staff informed of changes in state and federal law.
Serve as liaison between solicitor’s offices, the AG's office, and defendants' counsel.
Respond to correspondence from attorneys and court officials regarding SCDC criminal cases.
