Job summary

South Bend Community School Corp is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional (Homebound) to support students with IEPs in homebound settings. The role involves monitoring students during arrival, lunch, and daily activities, assisting in instruction under the guidance of teachers, and implementing Behavioral Intervention Plans.

You will collect data, maintain confidentiality, assist with accommodations, and participate in training.

Qualifications

• Pass Para-Pro examination or have 60 hours of college credit.
• High school diploma.
• Previous experience with children or students with special needs.
• Demonstrated ability to work well with others and understand individual students’ needs.
• Ability to accurately record and summarize data as directed by the special education teacher.
• Willingness to participate in pre and ongoing training programs.
• Understand the individual needs of students as described in their IEP.
• Ability to lift student if necessary (all students over 40 pounds are a 2-person lift).

Duties

• Support the needs of special education students or other special education staff in the building as directed
• Assist substitute teachers and paraprofessionals in adapting to needs of students and daily schedule of activities
• Assist students as needed to achieve individual goals and objectives for their IEPs
• Implement behavior and support plans as described in the students’ IEPs
• Assist in classroom instruction under the direction of general and special education teachers
• Assist with toileting and/or diapering as needed.
• Assist with feeding as needed.

Works in standard office and school building environments. Must be able to work regularly scheduled hours. Must be able to handle stress.
