Job summary

Accomack County Public Schools seeks a part-time Translator/Interpreter to provide oral and written translations between English and a designated language. The role prepares and distributes translations for publications, forms, letters, and notices.

Essential duties include consecutive or simultaneous interpretation, document translation, review and proofreading, and serving as liaison to ensure accurate communications with families and staff. Strong outreach to EL families is required.

Qualifications

• Must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; two years of college with a minimum of 16 credit hours of English and/or the desired language sought by the district preferred.
• Must possess at least two years of experience involving simultaneous oral translation and conversation of written documents and forms from one language into another.
• Must possess at least five years of progressively responsible multi-language experience with proficiency in that language.
• Certification as an interpreter/translator will be required if not already held, and the candidate must be willing to participate in a certification program if hired by the division.

Responsibilities

• Interprets spoken language with consecutive or simultaneous interpretation between languages.
• Translates documents and materials, ensuring accuracy and readability.
• Reviews and edits translations for context and style; proofreads documents and forms.
• Acts as liaison between staff and the school community to ensure proper translations.
• Conducts interpretation for parent/teacher conferences, new student registrations, and emergencies.
• Interprets communications sent via automated call system.
• Conducts outreach to parents of English Learners.
