Job summary

Atlanta Youth Academy is seeking a full-time Spanish teacher for a 10-month academic year in a Christian-college preparatory environment. The candidate will provide instruction aligned with the academy’s curriculum and foster critical thinking and problem-solving through engaging lessons.

A bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is ideal but not mandatory. Prior experience teaching Spanish is preferred, with a commitment to a collaborative, faith-based educational culture.

Responsibilities

• Provides content-related and appropriate instruction based on Atlanta Youth Academy’s instructional framework
• Plan and conduct lessons for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provide students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate, and to make broader connections toward the development of effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and the world at-large
• Administer Balanced Assessments to assist in the implementation of teaching that effectively and reasonably meets the needs of each student
• Ability to foster cooperation from students, co-workers, parents, and guardians;
• Effectively manage/maintain a safe, well-organized learning environment that promotes active learning
• Integrate appropriate technology into classroom instruction
• Enforce all administrative policies and rules governing students
• Confer with homeroom teachers to resolve behavioral and academic challenges
• Effective and proper written and verbal communication skills
• Provide tutorial for students before or after school
• Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent
• Accounts for student attendance, punctuality and general well-being
• Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities
• Avoid behaviors which detract from staff morale
• Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other professional development or training seminars.

Employment Status: Full-Time, 10 months

Position Overview: Teacher will provide instruction for students that enable them to learn and demonstrate mastery of Atlanta Youth Academy’s curriculum in a Christian-college preparatory environment. Teacher will teach the following classes: Spanish

Physical Demands:

When performing activities throughout the day related to the educating of students, the teacher spends the majority of the day standing in the classroom. He or she must walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver between desks, etc. Dealing with the students can entail kneeling or squatting, stooping, and bending from 50-70 degrees at the waist on an occasional to frequent basis. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects (textbooks, materials, desks, chairs, etc.). The teacher must see and hear on a continuous basis as well as speak frequently. Positions may vary from standing, sitting, or walking. On a rare occasion it may be necessary to move quickly, run, etc. over smooth to uneven surfaces such as on asphalt, on the playground, or on the grass. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential function
