Job summary

Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale seeks an Elementary Spanish Immersion Teacher. The role emphasizes using Spanish to engage students, with a biblical foundation and a focus on character formation.

You will collaborate with the Elementary Principal and Assistant Principal, develop weekly lesson plans, communicate with families, and participate in chapels and accreditation activities. The position is full-time, Monday–Friday, with a schedule of 7:30 a.m.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Spanish and English, able to pass a proficiency test.
• Florida teaching certification or equivalent in elementary education.

Responsibilities

• Model Christ in word and deed.

• Be available for student questions during breaks and after hours.

• Open classes with prayer and provide praise and encouragement.
• Decorate bulletin boards seasonally and scripturally.
• Maintain accurate student records and prepare interims/docs.
• Keep NetClassroom grade records current.
• Integrate scriptures across the curriculum.
• Teach Spanish as a second language and cultural aspects.
• Serve as interpreter for Spanish-speaking parents.
• Uphold dress code and professional standards.
• Prepare subfolders and secure classrooms for ministry use.
• Erase whiteboards daily as a stewardship practice.
• Lift up to 40 lbs when needed.

Purpose Statement

The specific focus is to encourage the use of the Spanish language through quality instruction, to motivate to continue in the study of languages, and to lay biblical foundations of how and why God uses different languages for His glory and His purpose.

Scope

This position guides students in classroom activities that will motivate them to reach their learning potential. The teacher will use various methods to interact with students, other faculty, parents, and staff at both Calvary Christian Academy and Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale.

Specific Responsibilities

• Model Christ in word and deed.
• Write lesson plans for all classes on a weekly basis according to Calvary Christian Academy guidelines.
• Establish and maintain communication with parents as specified by administrative policy.
• Read Calvary Christian Academy email/staff communications to remain informed and respond if requested to do so. This should be done upon arrival, midday, and before departure.
• Be available for student questions, concerns, ministry, and counsel during lunch hours, before school, after school, or in between classes.
• Attend staff devotions one day per week.
• Attend Calvary Christian Academy staff meetings.
• Attend Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale staff meetings.
• Participate in scheduled grade-level team meetings.
• Attend/participate in: Back to School Night, and other School events that promote relationship-building with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Participates in the accreditation process for the school's continuous improvement plan.
• Participates in professional development to stay current in their field.
• Adhere to specified professional dress.
• Attend and participate in designated Chapels.
• Open each class with prayer.
• Give specific praise and encouragement.
• Decorate classroom bulletin boards seasonally, scripturally, and quarterly.
• Establish and maintain accurate records on each student.
• Prepare interims.
• Prepare report cards and ongoing grade record-keeping on NetClassroom.
• Integrate school-wide theme scriptures into the classroom
• Teach through the Biblical Integration method.
• Discipline with love and establish incentives for improving behavior.
• Provide remediation or enrichment for students as necessary.
• Teach Spanish as a second language and the important aspects of Spanish Culture.
• Observe and assess the ability of each student.
• Serve as interpreter/document translator for teachers/administrators who need to communicate with parents who are Spanish speakers.
• Know the student dress code in order to ensure students comply with the standards
• Compile and maintain an up-to-date subfolder
• Secure classrooms for use by the Children’s Ministry and other ministries.
• All teachers are responsible for erasing their whiteboards at the end of each teaching day (good stewardship element)
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Full-time (40 hours/week); however, may be required to work an evening or weekend day to attend a CCA event, or assist with a special project or in a circumstantial emergency affecting the church facilities.
