Job summary

Harborview Medical Center's Interpreter Services Department is seeking a Medical Interpreter 1, Spanish, for a full-time Day Shift. The role focuses on ensuring patients access to care by providing high-quality interpretation across clinical encounters.

The interpreter will perform oral, sight, and written interpretation, convey information accurately between patients and providers, promote direct communication, and assist patients with forms, promoting culturally competent care across UW

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years interpretation experience in a clinic or hospital setting.
• Certification or qualification from Washington State DSHS, NBCMI, or CCHI is required or allowed.

Responsibilities

• Provide oral, sight and written interpretation for target language(s)
• Transmit information accurately between patient and provider or staff
• Encourage direct communication between patient and provider or staff
• Manage complexity of cross-cultural encounter
• Provide sight translation in the presence of provider and/or other medical staff
• Assist patients to complete medical, financial, or other forms
