Job summary

Northside Hospital Inc. is seeking a skilled medical interpreter to assist LEP patients and families.

The role involves consecutive or simultaneous interpretation, sight translation of medical materials, and translation of documents to support care and understanding. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 1 year of interpreting with at least 6 months in medical interpreting, and completion of a 40-hour Medical Interpreter Training Program, with IST certification or equivalent

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year interpreting experience, including 6 months in medical interpreting.
• Completion of a recognized Medical Interpreter Training Program (40 hours).
• Successful completion of the Interpreter Skills Test (IST) administered by Northside Hospital or equivalent certification (NBCMI/CCHI).
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree or higher.
• Preferred: 2 years of medical interpreter experience.
• Preferred: third language proficiency demonstrated via IST or similar.
• Preferred: experience in healthcare, customer service, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Provide consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation for LEP patients and families in medical settings.
• Provide sight-translation of materials to aid patient understanding of procedures, treatment, discharge instructions, and education.
• Translate hospital documents from English into the target language as assigned by supervisor.
