Job summary

Siouxland Community Health Center is seeking a Spanish Interpreter (Part-Time) to support patients during clinical visits. Hours are Mon-Thu 4 pm–8 pm and Fri 12 pm–5 pm.

The role requires fluent Spanish/English bilingual skills, basic computer/data entry, knowledge of medical terminology, and a high school diploma or GED. Prior interpreting experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide translation services and support non-English speaking patients and families during clinical visits.
  • Work directly with medical staff to ensure accurate communication between patient and staff.
  • Assist patients in completing intake forms at initial visits, including demographic and medical history.
  • Assist social service worker and patient in completing the social service intake process.
  • Travel to local agencies or hospitals to provide interpreting services as needed.

Job description

INTERPRETER - SPANISH (Part-Time)

1-Part-time

Hours will be Monday-Thursday 4 pm to 8 pm and Friday 12 pm to 5 pm

Successful candidate must have solid experience & advanced knowledge of:

  • Fluency in verbal, reading and written bilingual communication skills - Spanish & English
  • Basic computer and data entry skills
  • Knowledge of cultural barriers to medical care and ability to diminish barriers on the patients’ and SCHC’s behalf
  • Knowledge of medical terminology in Spanish and in English
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Previous experience interpreting preferred

Successful candidate must be able to perform primary functions of position:

  • Provide translation services and support the non-English speaking patients and their families during their clinical visit
  • Works directly with medical staff to ensure accurate communication and understanding between patient and staff
  • Assists patients in completing all necessary intake forms at initial visit, including but not limited to, demographic and medical history, and financial verification
  • Assists social service worker and patient in completing the social service intake process
  • Travel to local agencies or hospitals to provide interpreting services as needed
  • These functions are not all inclusive
