Job summary

Jackson College is seeking adjunct instructors to teach face-to-face Spanish courses at its Central campus in Jackson and at Hillsdale, Adrian, and prison sites. Online teaching is not accepted at this time. LEIN clearance is required and must be maintained annually for prison locations.

Positions are part-time with variable assignments by enrollment each semester. Applicants may be invited to teach across JC locations; final candidates undergo criminal background checks and must provide

Qualifications

  • Master degree or higher in Spanish or related field with Spanish coursework.
  • ACTFL certification in Spanish is a plus; application support available.
  • Desired translation certification for court or medical settings.
  • Ability to obtain LEIN clearance and maintain it annually.
  • Experience teaching at college level and evaluating student work.
  • Willingness to teach at multiple JC locations including prisons.

Responsibilities

  • Teach face-to-face courses at JC locations including Central campus in Jackson, Hillsdale and Adrian campuses, and prison facilities.
  • Evaluate and grade student work; prepare syllabi and assignments.
  • Deliver instructional materials in person and online when applicable.
  • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
  • Assist students in connecting to college resources and complete required reporting.

Job description

Description

The position requires teaching face-to-face courses at JC locations, including the Central campus in Jackson, the Hillsdale and Adrian campuses, and prison facilities. At this time we are not accepting applications from candidates who are only available to teach on line.


To teach at prison locations candidates must possess the ability to obtain a Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) clearance and maintain it annually, at all Michigan correctional facilities. Adjunct instructor positions are part‑time. Teaching assignments will vary from semester to semester and are based on enrollment. Therefore, there may be semesters where no assignments are available.


Essential Functions

Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments and papers. Prepare and deliver instructional materials (i.e. syllabi, homework assignments and handouts) in person and/or on-line. Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions. Compile, administer, and grade examinations. Participate in required reporting processes (i.e. grades, participation, etc.). Assist students in connecting to college resources.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Master degree or higher in Spanish

  • Master degree or higher in another field with 18 graduate credits in Spanish

  • Master degree or higher in another field with ACTFL certification in Spanish. The College will assist a otherwise qualified candidate in obtaining the ACTFL certification.

  • Professional certification from a widely recognized professional organization as a translator for court or medical settings.

  • Completion of a Master degree or higher in a country where all coursework (lectures, classes, thesis, etc.) are completed in Spanish.

  • Candidates must possess the ability to obtain a Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) clearance and maintain it annually, at all Michigan correctional facilities.

Adjunct instructors are not employed directly by Jackson College with the exception of those receiving a pension from the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System. All others are employed by EDUStaff, LLC. If you are selected to teach at Jackson College you will be required to complete EDUStaff's employment application and on‑boarding processes. Final candidates will be subject to a criminal background as part of the employment process.


A copy of Jackson College's Annual Security Report and Annual Fire Safety Report is available on the JC Campus Safety & Security website. The security report contains crime statistics for the previous three years for all of our campus locations and the annual fire safety report, which contains statistics for any reported fires in campus housing units and fire safety systems in these buildings. Additionally, the report contains policies, available resources and information concerning personal safety, fire safety and reporting procedures for both crimes and fires.
