We have an exciting opportunity for a Spacesuit Test Engineer to join our team with JETS II teammate company, Oceaneering.

We are actively searching for qualified candidates for this potential opening; however, we do not have assurance at this time when the position will be finalized and opened. Because we have strong reason to believe the position will be approved soon, we are proceeding with identifying qualified candidates and conducting interviews.

The Spacesuit Test Engineer will:

  1. Perform project and test engineering functions for EVA spacesuit design, development, procurement, manufacture, test, and certification.
  2. Develop essential documentation for the assigned tests including test plans, hazard analyses, test procedures, Test Readiness Review documentation, and any additional operations-related products.
  3. Design tests and test rigs, identifying instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  4. Coordinate test activities and requirements with NASA test facilities.
  5. Setup and execute tests and prepare summary reports documenting test results.
  6. Become a certified Suit Test Engineer and lead the execution of spacesuit testing.
  7. Plan and execute hardware troubleshooting to investigate mechanical and electrical failures within spacesuit hardware, development test articles, or test support hardware.
  8. Select and apply engineering techniques to analyze and evaluate specific problems, data, or other features of the work which are broad in scope and perform job functions based on pre-established guidelines or instructions.
  9. Perform other duties as required.

Requisition Qualifications:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 1 year of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field, such as mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, and component level and system level testing.

Requisition Preferences:

  • Experience as a project engineer or test engineer.
  • Experience with NASA test processes.
  • Familiarity with electro-mechanical hardware elements (pumps, relief valves, control valves, heating elements, water quality instrumentation, temperature/pressure sensors, etc.), and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience with oxygen systems or life support systems or LabView programming are all pluses.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
