Job summary

Mclaurin Aerospace seeks a Materials & Processes Engineer to join the JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. You will review drawings, advise on M&P for IVA/EVA, manage MUAs/MIULs, and ensure material compliance across spaceflight hardware.

Ideal candidates hold engineering degrees with 5+ years in metallurgy/space materials and demonstrate strong collaboration and problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering; 2–5 years of experience.
  • Degrees in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Chemical, Mechanical or Aerospace.
  • 5+ years of related work experience with materials and processes.
  • Knowledge in materials and processes for space applications, including materials selection, corrosion prevention and electrical bonding, failure analysis, heat treatment, adhesive bonding, contamination control, etc.
  • Knowledge in metallurgy including aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, stainless steels, nickel-based alloys.
  • Familiar with contamination control and verification methods for space hardware.
  • Familiar with metallic and nonmetallic materials specifications, properties, testing.
  • Knowledge in engineering drawing review for materials and processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review project/documentation and drawings to ensure M&P requirements for spaceflight hardware.
  • Advise on M&P for IVA and EVA, including materials selection, process control, and qualification.
  • Assist with MUAs, MIULs, oxygen compatibility assessments, and testing plans.
  • Provide input to program specifications and ensure materials requirements are incorporated.
  • Assess vendor processes and define changes needed.
  • Provide recommendations for qualification and acceptance testing.
  • Provide inspection and manufacturing process support for human space flight systems.
  • Other duties as required.
