Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks an Analog Electronics Design Engineer to contribute to spaceflight instrument development. You will design, simulate, test, and qualify analog and mixed-signal electronics for detectors, biasing, clocking, and power systems.

Collaboration with a team of engineers will be essential to advance mission instruments. You’ll work on breadboarding, flight-model integration, data processing and calibration, and participate in design reviews.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of analog and front-end circuit design experience.
  • Understanding of detector operation and signal chain electronics (low-noise preamplifiers, high-speed pulse amplifiers, ADCs).
  • Basic scripting ability to automate measurement sequences.
  • Proficiency in CAD and simulation tools.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret level security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Circuit design, simulation, and testing of analog electronics for spaceflight instruments (low-noise detectors, preamps, bias/clocking).
  • Design and test mixed-signal electronics to stimulate and emulate space flight electronics.
  • Oversee breadboarding, testing, fabrication, and space qualification of electronics.
  • Design, test, and integrate engineering model and flight model electronics.
  • Collect, process, calibrate, and analyze data to show board-level measurement adherence.
  • Prepare and present design reviews.
  • Generate and document test plans.
