Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland seeks an Analog Electronics Design Engineer to contribute to spaceflight instruments and detectors.

You will design, simulate, test, and qualify analog and mixed-signal electronics, manage breadboarding, and collaborate with a tight team across disciplines on missions such as MESSENGER, Europa Clipper, DART, Dragonfly, and NOAA SOLAR.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related physical science.
  • Minimum of 5 years of analog/front-end circuit design.
  • Understanding of detector operation and signal chain electronics (low-noise preamplifiers, high-speed pulse amplifiers, ADCs).
  • Basic scripting knowledge for automated measurement sequences.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design and simulation tools.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • The ability to obtain a Secret level security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Design, simulate, and test analog electronics including low-noise preamps, high-speed amplifiers, and detector bias/clocking.
  • Design and test mixed-signal electronics to model spaceflight systems.
  • Oversee breadboarding, testing, fabrication, and space qualification.
  • Design, test, and integration of engineering model and flight model electronics.
  • Collect, process, calibrate, and analyze data to meet board-level requirements.
  • Prepare and present design reviews.
  • Generate and document test plans.
