Job summary

Vast in Long Beach is seeking a Tooling Engineer to design, activate, and support fixtures and tooling for Haven-1 assembly and handling. This full-time exempt role reports to the Senior Manager of Tooling in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

Qualifications include a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, GD&T, 1+ years in aerospace tooling, NX proficiency, and hands-on experience with assemblies; strong planning and communication are essential for success.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical or related engineering discipline.
• Experience with GD&T.
• 1+ years in aerospace/mechanical design or tooling.
• 1+ years using NX or similar 3D CAD.
• Hands-on experience with handling, lifting, or building engineered assemblies.
• Experience running FEA on structural components.
• Strong planning and schedule management.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Own design, activation, and implementation of fixtures and tooling for Haven-1 assembly, lifting, and handling.
• Define vehicle integration flow, manufacturing process, concepts, and tooling interfaces with teams.
• Collaborate to define fixture specifications and qualification plans for production.
• Perform mechanical analysis for spacecraft fixtures.
• Develop operation and maintenance plans for test fixtures and tooling.
• Manage project schedules, deadlines, and outcomes.
• Coordinate vendor relationships and identify new tooling technologies.
• Develop tool improvements to save time or improve tolerances.
• Coordinate tooling modifications for part or production changes.
• Work with engineers and technicians to resolve production issues.
