Job summary

Portal Space Systems in Bothell, WA, seeks a Mechanisms Engineer to own a critical vehicle mechanism subsystem from concept through flight. You will collaborate with propulsion, structures, avionics, GNC, and launch operations to design integrated systems, build hardware, and validate through test.

The role demands hands‑on work on the factory floor, rapid iteration, and full ownership of mechanisms impacting mission success in a fast‑moving hardware environment.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years designing mechanisms or high‑reliability aerospace hardware.
  • Ownership of complex hardware projects from concept through design, manufacturing, integration, and test.
  • Experience with launch/space environments: vibration, shock, vacuum, thermal cycling.

Responsibilities

  • Own the complete lifecycle of moving mechanical assemblies from requirements through post‑flight analysis.
  • Drive structural/kinematic design for minimum mass while meeting strength and life requirements.
  • Create detailed component drawings with GD&T and tolerance stack‑ups.
  • Define and execute qualification and acceptance test campaigns and analyze flight data.
