Job summary

Apex Space, Inc. seeks a Mechanisms Build Engineer to advance long-life rotating assemblies and motor-driven mechanisms for spacecraft.

You will build, test, and qualify electromechanical hardware, working with controls, avionics, and software teams to ensure robust flight hardware for demanding environments. You will develop test campaigns, support manufacturing scaling, and contribute to hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, and validation across production and development environments.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.

Responsibilities

• Support build, integration, and qualification of electromechanical hardware and long-life rotating assemblies.
• Develop and execute component- and system-level test campaigns for motor-driven hardware and mechanisms.
• Support manufacturing scaling for actuator systems and precision electromechanical components.
• Design test setups, fixtures, instrumentation, and validation approaches for rotating assemblies and actuators.
• Collaborate with controls, avionics, and software teams to validate motor drive systems and telemetry interfaces.
• Assist with sensors (Hall effect, encoders, resolvers, microswitches, potentiometers) and electronic integration.
• Troubleshoot hardware and system-level issues across motors, mechanisms, sensors, and electrical interfaces.
• Support environmental testing (vibration, thermal vacuum, shock, lifetime, functional tests).
• Create manufacturing and test procedures, work instructions, and production validation processes.
• Lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions during development, qualification, and production.
• Partner with design and production teams to improve manufacturability and reliability.
