Job summary

Orbit Fab, Inc. seeks a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the mechanical team from concept through flight-ready hardware. The role balances leadership (50–75%) with hands-on IC work (25–50%).

You will guide architecture reviews, perform analyses, and ensure compliance with design standards while mentoring staff and delivering milestones. The ideal candidate has 7+ years in mechanical design/test, CAD/analysis proficiency, and aerospace experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 7+ years of design, fabrication, and/or test experience for mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD and analysis tools; hands-on with complex mechanical systems.
  • Experience with mechanism design including gears, ball screws, motor sizing, vibration & shock analysis.
  • Experience taking a product from concept to operation.
  • Knowledge of space-rated materials and design trades.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, small company environment.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical team through multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
  • Delegate tasks to align with skills and growth paths.
  • Guide process development and adherence for the Mechanical Engineering team.
  • Review mechanical system architecture and interfaces with hardware and missions.
  • Support analyses for hardware performance, life, and environment.
  • Support assembly and test activities including performance, shock, and vibration tests.
  • Review drawings ensuring ASME Y14.5 standards and provide reviews before milestones.
  • Identify roadblocks and mitigate technical progress risks.
  • Deliver presentations to the team and mentor staff in weekly one-on-ones.
  • Build strong interdepartmental relationships to sustain a productive work environment.
  • Own design and analysis of spacecraft systems, structures, MGSE, mechanisms; maintain CAD models and docs.
  • Provide SME input for requirements, verification/validation plans.
