Job summary

Katalyst Space Technologies is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to design, analyze, and test spacecraft mechanical systems in a collaborative team. You will own tasks from concept through hardware fabrication and test, interfacing with avionics, propulsion, software, and mission operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree completed or expected before start date in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
  • Strong grounding in mechanics, statics and dynamics, structures, materials, machine design, heat transfer, manufacturing.
  • Hands-on mechanical engineering experience through internships, research, student teams, capstone projects, labs or prior jobs.
  • Ability to break down ambiguous mechanical problems and validate work through analysis, prototype, test or data.
  • Clear written and verbal technical communication describing what was designed, modeled, built, or tested.
  • Willingness to learn new spacecraft hardware, materials, processes, and tools quickly in a dynamic program.
  • Ability to collaborate with avionics, GNC, propulsion, software, systems, manufacturing, and mission-operations engineers.
  • Comply with export-control requirements and customer-access restrictions.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to design, analysis, development, manufacturing, integration, test, and operation of spacecraft mechanical systems.
  • Own mechanical engineering problems from requirements through CAD, analysis, drawing release, fabrication, and test.
  • Work hands-on with CAD, drawings, prototypes, flight hardware, and test equipment.
  • Participate in design reviews, hardware builds, test campaigns, anomaly investigations, and mission readiness.
  • Collaborate across engineering teams to understand interfaces and system-level impacts on performance.
  • Build engineering judgment by comparing calculations with inspection data and hardware results.
  • Document requirements, interfaces, calculations, CAD, drawings, tolerances, and decisions for review and reuse.
  • Progress from supervised tasks to independent responsibility as capability grows.
  • Support mission execution by translating objectives into mechanical designs, analyses, and test plans.
