Job summary

KBR is seeking a Spacecraft Mechanical Designer to create novel concepts for space flight instruments, MGSE, and opto-mechanical assemblies. You will model in Creo and SolidWorks, generate detailed drawings, and apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 in a collaborative team.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in aerospace hardware design, experience with environmental testing, and strong communication; US citizenship or green card is required due to ITAR/export controls.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Design or related technical discipline; B.S. preferred.
  • 5+ years in space/aerospace/defense hardware design with flight-like hardware.
  • SolidWorks and Creo CAD; experience with sheet metal, piping, cabling, routed systems.
  • Proficient in ASME Y14.1 and GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Knowledge of WindChill PLM and CM systems; strong teamwork and communication.
  • US Citizen or Green Card due to ITAR/export controls.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design for structures, moving mechanisms, opto-mechanical assemblies, and MGSE.
  • CAD modeling in SolidWorks or Creo.
  • Generate production drawings with detailed assembly and part designs.
  • Apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 to ensure proper fit and function.
  • Select aerospace-grade materials and hardware based on space-flight needs.
  • Coordinate with analysis for FEM and design updates.
  • Attend weekly mechanical status meetings and support design reviews.
