Job summary

Umbra is seeking a Spacecraft Manufacturing Engineer in Santa Barbara/Goleta, CA to lead the production lines for space vehicles and payloads. You'll ensure manufacturing process compliance and drive continuous improvement with engineering and production teams.

Responsibilities include developing repeatable processes, prototyping plan execution, and mentoring staff while interfacing with hardware engineers to map designs to builds and resolve issues in real time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering.
• 5+ years of aerospace or high-reliability hardware manufacturing experience.
• Experience creating manufacturing plans, build procedures, and work instructions.
• Hands-on assembly, integration, and testing of electro-mechanical systems.
• Strong interpreter of drawings, GD&T (ASME Y14.5 preferred).
• Cross-functional collaboration with design, quality, supply chain, and test teams.
• Proven documentation skills for manufacturing and test procedures.
• Experience with supplier technical requirements and production readiness.

Responsibilities

• Develop and document repeatable production processes and procedures.
• Lead prototype builds planning, materials, schedules, and technicians.
• Train staff on new and existing manufacturing processes.
• Translate designs into build plans, assess risks, and identify tooling needs.
• Contribute to design reviews with DFM input for machined components.
• Oversee introduction of new products and revisions.
• Resolve manufacturing discrepancies and perform root-cause analysis.
