Umbra, an American space technology company, seeks a Spacecraft Mechanical Engineer to design, prototype, build, and test space hardware for a fast-paced, collaborative team in Santa Barbara. You will work closely with the Chief Engineer to optimize components and subsystems for mission readiness and reliability.

The role emphasizes hands-on fabrication, design verification, and documentation, with opportunities to contribute across multiple engineering disciplines and support launch activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or closely related engineering field.
  • 3+ years in aerospace, mechanical, or manufacturing engineering.
  • Proficiency in CAD and drafting to ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Hands-on manufacturing/assembly experience and tool use.
  • Strong first-principles analysis and FEA proficiency.

Responsabilités

  • Design, build and test spacecraft hardware and mechanisms, collaborating with cross-functional teams to refine requirements.
  • Develop initial concepts and physical prototypes; optimize for performance and manufacturability.
  • Create detailed design documentation, ICDs and design guides; support test plans and reports.
  • Provide mechanical engineering support to other teams and assist during launch/test campaigns as needed.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues with technicians and manufacturing engineers.
