Job summary

Amazon Leo DevOps in Redmond, WA seeks an experienced Spacecraft Hardware Development Specialist II to lead hardware development, prototyping, testing, and lab support for satellite hardware. This role partners with design engineers to iterate quickly, qualify hardware for space, and contribute to lab layout and calibration programs.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years hardware development, test lab, or space/aerospace engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical/electrical engineering or STEM, or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift up to 49 pounds and perform extended shifts.
  • 3+ years relevant experience beyond degree, or 7+ years total in lieu of degree.
  • 6+ years in space/aerospace/military/precision fabrication/test environment.
  • 2+ years experience with precision mechanical and electrical fabrication/testing.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently on ambiguous problems and collaborate as needed.
  • Partner with design engineers to iterate hardware for space and manufacturability.
  • Support hardware through prototyping, development, testing, and qualification.
  • Troubleshoot complex hardware and test setups to root cause.
  • Mechanical and electrical assembly of spacecraft mechanisms.
  • Design and adapt lab spaces and equipment for evolving needs.
  • Create custom test fixtures, tooling, and automation to support testing.
  • Develop and maintain clear engineering documentation and reports.
  • Estimate schedules and resources for lab tasks.
  • Train teammates on lab equipment and processes and drive process improvements.
  • Familiarity with aerospace quality standards for mechanical and electrical components.
