The Aerospace Corporation, located in El Segundo, CA, seeks a passionate Mechanical Design Engineer (Engineering Specialist – Mechanical Engineering) to design and develop innovative mechanical systems from ideation to production, assembly and test. Requires 8+ years of experience and strong CAD/FEA, GD&T, and manufacturing know-how.

Position is onsite in El Segundo, with occasional travel and the ability to obtain a security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of professional experience in mechanical engineering.
• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, NX or Creo).
• Proficient in creating machine drawings using GD&T.
• Experience with hardware prototypes from concept to test.
• Hands-on experience with FEA software.
• Familiarity with machining processes and design for manufacturing.
• Willingness to travel periodically (approx. once per year).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of mechanical systems for space, air, and ground-based sensors and systems.
• Perform basic structural analysis using FEA tools.
• Create detailed machine drawings using GD&T.
• Assemble and test mechanical systems and hardware prototypes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to develop requirements and interfaces.
• Work independently and under supervision of systems engineering and project management.
