Job summary

Lunar Outpost seeks a Software Test Lead to design and implement the test strategy for embedded, flight, and ground systems in a space robotics setting. You will build test environments, collaborate across software, systems, and hardware teams, and lead a growing test engineering group in a fast-paced, agile startup.

The role emphasizes risk assessment, test automation, and certification activities, with opportunities to mentor and grow the team in a mission-driven company. U.S. Person required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years in software testing with at least 2 years in leadership.
• Experience testing embedded/real-time robotics or safety-critical systems.
• Familiar with verification frameworks for high-reliability software.
• Proficient with test tools, automation frameworks, and scripting.
• Strong SDLC and systems engineering understanding.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills

Responsibilities

• Design and implement the software test strategy for embedded, flight, and ground systems.
• Develop test plans, procedures, and docs for verification and validation.
• Build initial test environments including simulation, HIL, and CI systems.
• Collaborate with software, systems, and hardware teams to ensure traceability from requirements to test coverage.
• Contribute to risk assessments and support fault injection and resilience testing.
• Evaluate and introduce automation frameworks and tools for space robotics.
• Promote testing excellence and quality-focused development in a fast-paced agile env.
• Support future hiring, mentorship, and leadership of a growing test team.
• Coordinate with Integrate Product Teams for testability during design.
• Generate and maintain Verification and Validation Matrices.
• Facilitate and organize software product certification.
• Coordinate with System Level Integration & Test Teams and customers.
