Job summary

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. seeks a Specialist, Mechanical Engineer (Space Optics) to design and develop spaceborne precision optics, mirrors, mounts, and cryogenic optical systems for IR payloads.

You will perform mechanical systems analysis, architecture definition, and create specifications and ICDs, supported by trade studies. You will lead cross-functional design teams, author PDRs/CDRs, conduct trade studies, and oversee schedules and costs at the major subsystem level while mentoring

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience; Graduate Degree with at least 2 years of related experience; in lieu of a degree, 8 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Mechanical systems development for IR payloads and subsystems from requirements allocations to specification and interface definition and compliance verification.
• Detailed mechanical design of precision optics for IR payloads including mirrors, mounts, windows, filters, focal plane mounts and telescopes for cryogenic applications.
• Leadership of small to mid-sized cross-functional design teams for IR payloads and mechanical subsystems.
• Author PDRs, CDRs, and other required design reviews.
• Perform trade studies to determine optimal designs.
• Assist with schedule, cost, and technical responsibility at the major subsystem level.
• Direct and review the work of junior engineers and technicians.
• Participate in risk assessment and mitigation for complex projects.
