Job summary

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Specialist, Mechanical Engineer (Space Optics) in Fort Wayne, IN to design and develop spaceborne precision optics and cryogenic optical systems. You will lead mechanical designs, perform trade studies, and support architecture definition for IR payloads.

The role requires hands-on CAD modeling, optics experience, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams. Relocation assistance is available; a U.S. security clearance may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or graduate engineering degree with hands-on design and testing for space environments.
• 3+ years of 3D CAD modeling in aerospace or space optics contexts.
• Experience with optical focus, thermalization, and alignment design is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design for IR optical payloads, including mirrors and mounts.
• Develop trade studies and interface definitions for subsystems.
• Write and review PDRs/CDRs and design reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate cross-functional teams.
