Job summary

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Lead, Mechanical Engineer in Fort Wayne, IN to guide a team focused on EO/IR payload design for SWaP-constrained space systems. You will act as a technical lead in mechanical design, analysis, and integration into flight hardware.

The role requires hands-on design leadership, budget awareness, and collaboration across functions, with eligibility to obtain a Secret security clearance. This is a challenging opportunity for experienced engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with 9+ years of relevant experience; or graduate degree with 7+ years; or 13+ years if no degree.
• Minimum 5+ years of experience leading a technical team
• Experience with government contracts, requirements, and compliance
• Experience with payload level design and mechanical architecture

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for a team of mechanical engineers in payload architecture and optical design
• Ensure compliance with mechanical engineering standards and processes
• Lead proposal development and guide concept, BOE and BOM
• Develop lower mass, lower cost, higher performance payloads and collaborate across functions
• Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance
