Job summary

K2 Space in Los Angeles seeks an Optical Manufacturing Engineer to lead the development and scaling of space-qualified optical subsystems and large aperture telescopes.

You will design fixtures, specify processes, and collaborate with design and test teams to ensure repeatable quality across high-volume production. This role requires a Bachelor’s in engineering and hands-on experience with optomechanical fabrication, metrology, and cleanroom practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
• 3+ years in high-volume production environments.
• Experience delivering DFX guidance for optomechanical designs.
• Familiarity with optical metrology equipment and cleanroom practices.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the optical design team to provide DFX guidance across optics and mounts.
• Develop manufacturing processes for space-qualified subsystems and telescopes.
• Design alignment fixtures and tooling to protect optics and ensure tolerances.
• Support selection of fabrication equipment and layout planning for in-house optics production.
• Develop in-process inspections and metrology methods with data traceability.
• Create work instructions and lead root-cause analyses for nonconformances.
