Job summary

K2 Space Corporation seeks an Optical Manufacturing Engineer to bridge optical design and production for high‑power satellite payloads. You will ensure manufacturability, build prototypes, design tooling, and enable transition to production with the optical engineering team.

In this role you will develop flows for optical subassemblies, define DFx guidance, and scale processes to flight hardware with a focus on large aperture telescopes and space qualification standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, optical mechanical, aerospace, or other relevant engineering discipline.
• 3+ years in high-volume, rapid production environment (manufacturing/integration/design).
• Experience setting up a manufacturing floor for first article builds.
• Experience in avionics subassembly manufacturing incl. wire harness, PCBA/enclosure.
• DFX guidance on optomechanical designs with GD&T and optical tolerances.
• Familiarity with optical metrology eqpt (interferometers, autocollimators, etc.).
• Experience with cleanroom, FOD/ESD, and space-grade materials and processes.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with optical design team to provide DFX guidance for optics and mounts.
• Develop manufacturing/assembly processes for space-qualified optics subsystems and telescopes.
• Design alignment fixtures, bonding/handling tooling and GSE.
• Support selection of fabrication/ metrology equipment; plan cleanroom layout.
• Develop in-process inspections, optical metrology, end-of-line tests.
