Job summary

E-Space in Saratoga is seeking a Lead Embedded Software Engineer to own the full path from product requirements to working firmware. You will translate goals into architecture, write production code in C/C++ (and Rust where applicable), and lead a team of embedded engineers to ship reliable, high-performance software.

This is a player-coach role reporting to the head of product engineering. You will write code daily while guiding design reviews, setting technical direction, and collaborating

Qualifications

• 7+ years of embedded software development experience in production systems.
• Strong C/C++ skills in resource-constrained environments (bare-metal and RTOS).
• Hands-on experience with Zephyr RTOS, including West build system and CMake.
• Deep knowledge of MCU families: STM32, Nordic nRF, or ESP32.
• Experience integrating inertial sensors (IMU, accelerometer, gyroscope).
• Strong wireless protocol knowledge - BLE, Thread, Wi-Fi.
• Experience designing backend communications (MQTT, CoAP, HTTP/REST).
• Strong automated tests for embedded code: unit tests, mocking, HIL/SIL.
• Proficiency with hardware debug tooling: JTAG, SWD, scopes.
• Solid Git workflows and CI/CD integration.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a technical team while hands-on.

Responsibilities

• Architect and provide technical leadership for the embedded stack.
• Translate product requirements into system software architecture.
• Define interfaces, data flows and module boundaries across firmware.
• Make and own key technical decisions and document them.
• Identify risks and drive timely solutions.
• Hands-on firmware development in C/C++ (and Rust where applicable).
• Develop drivers, middleware, and application logic for sensor platforms.
• Work with Zephyr RTOS across MCU families.
• Manage builds with West and CMake; configure boards.
• Debug firmware using JTAG, SWD, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes.
• Integrate sensors (IMUs, accelerometers, gyros) and networking (BLE/Thread/Wi‑Fi).
• Design backend communications (MQTT/CoAP/HTTP) for edge-to-cloud data transfer.
• Build and maintain tests, CI pipelines and test frameworks.
• Lead and mentor a small embedded team and collaborate with hardware.
