Job summary

Vast, based in Long Beach, California, is seeking an Avionics Software Test Engineer to design and implement Python automation for flight-critical avionics hardware.

The role covers the full software lifecycle for test systems, integration with hardware, and cross-functional collaboration with hardware and avionics teams. Willingness to work evenings/weekends and compensation in California is provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering/physical science or related field.
• Proficiency in Python (OOP).
• Experience interfacing software with instrumentation hardware.
• Experience with DAQ systems (NI or similar).
• Git version control experience.
• Experience with unit testing and CI/CD.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement Python software for automated testing of flight-critical avionics hardware.
• Manage the complete software lifecycle for avionics test systems.
• Integrate test equipment with avionics hardware and resolve automation challenges.
• Collaborate with hardware and avionics teams to define test requirements.
• Create documentation and user guides for handover.
• Enhance the test automation framework with new capabilities.
• Diagnose test anomalies and perform root cause analysis.
• Conduct code reviews and uphold software engineering practices.
