Job summary

Vast in Long Beach, CA is seeking an Avionics Software Test Engineer to design and implement Python software for automated testing of flight-critical avionics hardware, and to manage the full software lifecycle from development to production qualification.

You will collaborate with hardware, test and avionics teams, extend the test automation framework, diagnose anomalies, and contribute to core software engineering practices, with responsibilities including documentation and cross-functional

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering or physical science discipline is required.
• Proficiency in Python and object-oriented programming.
• Experience with hardware interfacing software and DAQ systems desired.
• Familiarity with GitHub, CI/CD, and software testing practices.
• Strong documentation and cross-team communication abilities.
• Knowledge of Linux environments and embedded software basics.
• Experience with SCPI, pyVISA and test automation tooling is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement Python software for automated testing of flight-critical avionics hardware.
• Manage the complete software lifecycle for avionics test systems, from development to qualification and production testing.
• Integrate test equipment with avionics hardware and resolve automation challenges with cross-functional teams.
• Define test requirements with hardware and avionics teams and suggest test equipment solutions.
• Create comprehensive documentation and user guides for handover to engineers and technicians.
• Enhance the existing Python test automation framework with new capabilities.
• Diagnose test anomalies, perform root-ccause analyses, and drive resolution.
• Lead code reviews and reinforce core software engineering practices.
