Job Overview
The Sous Chef at the Canopy Charlotte Southpark is responsible for assisting in the overall success of the daily culinary operations. This person will assist in leading the culinary team and all food-related functions to improve guest and team member satisfaction while maximizing financial performance.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Executive Chef in all kitchen operations.
- Provide guidance and direction to team members, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
- Use interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others.
- Advocate sound financial and business decision-making.
- Demonstrate honesty and integrity, leading by example.
- Encourage mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
- Ensure property policies are administered fairly and consistently.
- Review staffing levels to meet guest service, operational, and financial needs.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of food preparation team members.
- Demonstrate new cooking techniques and equipment.
- Develop and implement guidelines for purchasing and receiving.
- Communicate safety procedures and monitor compliance.
- Monitor food quality and ensure standards are met.
- Ensure compliance with food handling and sanitation standards.
- Maintain required food handling and sanitation certifications.
- Improve service by understanding guest needs and coaching team members.
- Handle guest problems and complaints.
- Review guest feedback to identify areas for improvement.
- Coach and mentor team members to improve skills.
- Train culinary staff on cooking fundamentals and presentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; hotel/college training preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in culinary or related fields.
- Extensive culinary knowledge, including current trends.
- Ability to work under pressure and remain calm.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Creative, proactive, customer-oriented.
- Excellent time management and leadership skills.
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude.
- Flexible schedule including days, nights, holidays, and weekends.
