Position Overview:
The Sous Chef is responsible for supporting the Executive Chef in the day-to-day operation of the kitchen, ensuring high-quality food preparation and presentation, overseeing kitchen staff, maintaining food safety standards, and contributing to menu development. This position requires strong culinary skills, leadership, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Executive Chef in menu planning, recipe development, and food costing.
Oversee and supervise kitchen staff, including chefs, line cooks, and kitchen assistants.
Ensure all food is prepared in accordance with restaurant standards for taste, presentation, and consistency.
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, adhering to health and safety regulations.
Manage inventory, ordering, and stock rotation to minimize waste and ensure the kitchen is always stocked with necessary ingredients.
Monitor kitchen performance and assist with training and development of team members.
Ensure food is delivered in a timely manner to customers.
Assist in managing food preparation for banquets or large events, as needed.
Ensure kitchen equipment is maintained and report any issues or repairs to the Executive Chef.
Handle any customer complaints or issues related to food quality or service.
Participate in the hiring, scheduling, and performance reviews of kitchen staff.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Sous Chef, Line Cook, or relevant role in a professional kitchen.
Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, kitchen operations, and food safety standards.
Ability to lead and motivate a team in a high-pressure environment.
Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A degree or diploma in Culinary Arts or a related field (preferred but not required).
Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to lift heavy items (up to 50 pounds).
Fast-paced work environment requiring quick movements and attention to detail.
