About Independence Beer Garden:

A vibrant 20,000-square-foot outdoor venue in historic Philadelphia, overlooking the Liberty Bell and Independence National Historical Park. Known for its laid-back atmosphere, industrial-chic design, extensive American craft beer selection, shareable snacks, and casual food, offering a fun, high-volume environment for food, beverage, and guest experience enthusiasts.

Summary/Objective:

The Sous Chef plans and directs food preparation under the guidance of the Executive Chef and/or Executive Sous Chef.

Essential Functions:

• Hires, trains, develops, and appraises staff effectively, taking corrective action as needed, and consulting with HR as appropriate.
• Manages food and labor costs in the assigned restaurant.
• Collaborates with the Executive Chef on developing new menu items, tastings, and trend monitoring.
• Builds relationships with vendors to maximize profits and opportunities.
• Supervises back-of-house staff and fills in on the line or expo as needed.
• Schedules staff, files reports, and monitors attendance.
• Submits nightly reports on service, sales, costs, and customer feedback.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Manages all restaurant hourly BOH staff, involved in planning, hiring, training, and development.
