OVERVIEW

The University of St. Thomas invites internal employees to apply to a Catering Sous Chef opening within Dining Services.

  • Pay: up to $25.00 an hour
  • Full Time, 12 months out of the year
  • Work directly for the university, not a food service company

This position is open only to current, regular employees of the University of St. Thomas.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • As a member of the culinary management team, the Sous Chefassists the Chef with production of all catered event food selections and retail action stations.
  • The Sous Chef works alongside the Chef on menu development and supervision of the kitchen area during their shift.
  • The Sous Chef works to utilize food items, batch cooks to keep costs in line with revenue projections, and prepares catering orders.
  • As a culinary leader, the Sous Chef is responsible for training cooks and developing and coaching culinary staff during the year.
  • Duties include food production and the delegation/supervision of prep duties to culinary and student staff in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen.

Schedule and Location:

This position will largely work on the St. Paul campus and have a schedule of 11:00 am to 7:00 pm and will include weekends; the schedule will largely be dependent on business needs and event schedules. There may be times the person in this role will need to work on the Minneapolis campus as well.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three years of advanced level food preparation experience in a hotel, university, resort, or a comparable hospitality industry setting
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is a condition of employment for this position
  • Serv Safe certification preferred

This position works a flexible schedule based on business needs, including nights and weekends.

This position is designated Emergency Essential. Emergency Essential employees may be expected to remain at work if campus closes during their regular work schedule or to report to work if the campus-closing announcement is made before their regular work schedule begins.
