Job summary

Peninsula Regent in San Mateo, CA, is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to lead our culinary team across our fine-dining restaurant, upscale Bistro, and catering services at our luxury senior living community.

The ideal candidate has 2–4 years of Sous Chef or equivalent experience, strong leadership, and a commitment to outstanding hospitality. We offer a positive work environment, regular hours, and excellent benefits. Compensation ranges from $32.00 to $34.00 per hour, DOE.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2–4 years of experience as Sous Chef or in a comparable role.
• Experience leading culinary teams in fine dining or upscale settings.
• Ability to maintain exceptional food quality and presentation.
• Valid Food Handlers card; ServSafe certification a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor kitchen staff across menus and service styles.
• Oversee daily kitchen operations for restaurant, bistro, and catering.
• Ensure food safety, sanitation, and quality controls.
• Collaborate with culinary leadership on menu development.

Overview

The Peninsula Regent, San Mateo’s premier upscale senior living community, is seeking an experienced Sous Chef with a minimum of 2-4 years of experience in Sous Chef or equivalent roles to help lead our team of culinary professionals for our fine-dining restaurant, upscale casual Bistro, catering services, and/or all other areas of our culinary program.

We are not a nursing home or typical retirement community. At our luxury, resort-like community, we are driven to provide our residents with the best hospitality the San Mateo Area has to offer, so our residents don’t need to leave home for an incredible culinary experience. Additionally, we provide regular and consistent working hours and no more 11 pm or 2 am closing shifts!

Compensation: $32.00 - $34.00 / hr DOE
