Avli is seeking a Sous Chef who will work across multiple locations as needed.

Ideal Candidate Skills
  • Positive attitude
  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or senior station chef in a high-volume, fast-paced restaurant environment
  • Team leadership and scheduling experience
  • Wide culinary skills including knife skills, grill, sauté, sauce, and soup making
  • Professional communication and presentation
  • Inventory control, ordering food and dry goods
  • Computer skills including email, spreadsheets, Toast POS, and 7shifts
  • Illinois Food Handler and Allergen Certifications, City of Chicago Food Manager Certificate
Job Duties
Back of House Management
  • This floating role is primarily based at Lakeshore East, with coverage at River North and Lincoln Park locations as needed.
  • Lead and motivate the culinary team, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Maintain food quality, minimize waste, and control costs.
  • Ensure staff demonstrate technical skills; provide coaching and correction.
  • Assist with hiring, scheduling, and training staff on techniques, safety, and sanitation.
  • Maintain a leadership presence during service, embodying the Avli philosophy.
  • Participate in weekly meetings and communicate with management.
  • Address service and culinary issues promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure food is prepared and presented according to standards.
Management & Administration
  • Assist with monthly inventory and supply orders.
  • Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with health and safety laws.
  • Execute closing procedures and ensure proper storage of products.
  • Monitor and ensure facility standards and coordinate repairs.
General Requirements
  • Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs.
Schedule

Must be available for various hours, including holidays, nights, and weekends.
