SOUS CHEF

We are looking for the right person to work with our culinarians to implement the food and beverage program for our residents. We specialize in assisted living and memory care. Highgate Senior Living's mission is to help each resident live a purposeful life, and each of us plays a crucial role in this. We operate communities in the western US and are seeking a Sous Chef to join our team. This full-time position is responsible for providing a culinary experience that engages all five senses and nourishes both body and soul.

  • Advanced culinary skills demonstrating innovation and creativity
  • Strong safety awareness and promotion of a safe kitchen environment
  • Menu creation skills incorporating nutrition, diversity, and flair
  • Knowledge of food safety, infection control, and cleanliness standards
  • Proficiency in varied cooking techniques and a desire to teach others
  • Calmness under pressure and ability to manage stressful situations
  • Business acumen in managing labor, purchasing, and equipment maintenance
  • Teamwork and strong relationship-building skills with a customer service focus
  • Adaptability to residents' needs and preferences
  • Understanding or willingness to learn about dementia and supporting residents with it

Relatable Experience:

  • Experience in producing and delivering culinary programs
  • Roles delivering high-quality service, especially to seniors or vulnerable groups
  • Experience in healthcare, hospitality, or hotel culinary services
  • Volunteer work or other experience with vulnerable populations
  • Internships or special programs enhancing culinary skills
  • Leadership roles within the culinary field
Qualifications:

1. At least 21 years of age

2. Education and experience supporting Sous Chef status

3. Knowledge of regulatory standards for kitchens (or ability to learn quickly)

4. Willingness to learn about healthcare/assisted living environments

5. ServeSafe certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

6. Ability to pass criminal background checks

7. Ability to work independently with minimal oversight
