Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Sourcing Manager for Mechanical & Optical Commodities to manage supplier base and drive cost, quality, and speed from prototyping through full-rate production. You will collaborate with engineering on NPI, design changes, and manufacturing transitions to ensure readiness and continuity.

The role requires strong negotiation, technical sourcing experience, and the ability to scale programs while protecting SpaceX interests in a fast-moving environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management; or 9+ years without a degree
• Experience with machined, optical, or photonic components
• Experience in NPI and mass production

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage supply base domestically and internationally.
• Work with suppliers on sourcing and cost strategies.
• Own supply continuity, capacity planning, and readiness for scaling.
• Lead supplier negotiations on pricing and terms.
• Monitor industry trends and collaborate with design teams to mitigate challenges.
• Support NPI and production transitions.
• Build sourcing strategies including multi-source development.
• Lead supplier escalations for quality, delivery, and risk.
• Create risk assessments and recovery plans.
• Drive end-to-end hardware ownership from prototype to full-rate production.
• Present value propositions to executives on contracts and cost issues.
