Job summary

Axon seeks a Mechanical Sourcing Engineer to build a world-class supplier network for our products, ensuring supply continuity and cost optimization. You will lead cross-functional teams to launch new products and manage supplier relationships across a dynamic NPI lifecycle.

Location is Scottsdale, AZ with heavy onsite presence; you will influence with stakeholder collaboration and leverage industry experience to drive strategic sourcing decisions and risk mitigation.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in supply chain, technical sourcing, and/or engineering.
  • NPI sourcing environment experience preferred.

The mission as the Mechanical Sourcing Engineer is to build a world-class mechanical supplier network for our products that can ensure continuity of supply, scale to support demand, provide cost reduction and anticipates and mitigates supply chain risks. You will work throughout the product development lifecycle executing strategic projects to optimize commodities, subcommodities and individual suppliers; executing detailed projects with suppliers to implement changes and improvements affecting quality, cost, capacity, risk, and subsupplier management and to launch new products.

What You’ll Do

Location: Onsite at our Scottsdale, Arizona office 4-5 days a week, and on the road 20% of time
Reports to: Category Manager, Mechanical
Direct Reports: none, must lead functional peer organizations via influence

  • Proactively communicate with the design engineering teams prior to and during the NPI development process to understand their current & future needs for new product components; influencing by leveraging industry experience.
  • Work with the Mechanical Category managers on sourcing decisions that are aligned with their strategies. Provide the tools, methodologies, techniques, and technical insight to drive intelligent sourcing of mechanical products.
  • Seek cross-functional team agreement on discrepancies.
  • Establish strong relationships with manufacturers and their associated representatives to understand product roadmaps and availability to support future product development.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, engineering and quality for DFM on new products
  • Work with the sourcing team to develop and ramp component sources for new products and support the NPI purchasing team’s efforts to ensure components are purchased in a timely manner for the different engineering builds.
  • Assist the respective category managers and cross-functional category teams in developing and executing multidimensional commodity strategies that support the NPI work stream with an emphasis on cost optimization, time to market, technology, quality, supply continuity, supply chain consolidation, service and risk mitigation.
  • Support negotiations of Axon pricing at the component level for mechanical commodities; partnering with the category managers to develop and execute negotiation strategies with new product suppliers to achieve specific targets for pricing, service, quality & delivery.
  • Ensure supplier awards for new business are leveraged in pricing negotiations.
  • Identify and manage the implementation of cost reduction opportunities on new and existing products in collaboration with the category management and continuous engineering teams.
  • Identify risks in our current supply chain and work together with the mechanical category manager and continuous engineering team and component engineer to qualify additional sources of supply for critical components on our BOM’s. Lead teams in identification of risks/hazards relative to new product designs, processes, suppliers, and applications.
  • Assist the mechanical category manager & Legal teams in negotiating and executing optimal contract terms with key new suppliers.
  • Participate in the supplier selection process and ensure supplier selections are based on sound selection criteria for new product introduction activities to select the right supplier for the part, considering long term fit and total cost of ownership.
  • Participate in periodic business reviews with key suppliers to review supplier performance on new product programs
  • Own the development and maintenance of the approved manufacturer’s list.
What You Bring
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in supply chain, technical sourcing, and/or engineering.
  • Work experience in a new product introduction (NPI) sourcing environment is preferred.
  • Experience with a high mix/low volume procurement environment is preferred.
  • Ability to work on multiple cross functional projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with key stakeholders to drive proper rigor in supplier selection process.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage rapid changes typical during the NPI development process.
  • Skilled at pricing and terms & conditions negotiations.
  • Strong proficiency in Google/Microsoft Office software packages.
  • Excellent communicator, ability to lead in an environment of in-direct control.
  • Communicates effectively in a dynamic, multidisciplinary team environment to meet internal and external customer demands.
  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead and influence change in the face of complexity and ambiguity.
  • Proficient with managing and understanding cross-cultural business practices, especially within Asia.
  • Located or willing to relocate to Scottsdale, AZ.
  • Ability to influence without authority, create win/win situations, and produce results.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, product specifications, procedures and standard.
