Job summary

Leatherman is seeking a Sourcing Engineer to partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Planning, Sourcing, and global suppliers to improve supplier performance, product quality, delivery, cost, inventory optimization, and supply chain resilience.

You will lead supplier qualification, analyze performance data, and support new product introductions while driving continuous improvement through data and innovation. Portland-based role focusing on global supplier collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related Engineering discipline.
  • 2–5 years of engineering experience in manufacturing, supplier quality, sourcing, or related discipline.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings with working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead supplier qualification and development activities.
  • Solve complex manufacturing and supplier quality challenges using structured problem solving.
  • Partner with Engineering to improve manufacturability and supplier capability.
  • Analyze supplier performance and manufacturing data to drive continuous improvement.

  • Leverage AI, automation, and digital tools to improve engineering effectiveness.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related Engineering discipline.
  • 2–5 years of engineering experience in manufacturing, supplier quality, sourcing, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings with working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred

  • Experience with PPAP, PFMEA, process capability, or structured root cause methodologies.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing or supplier development.
  • Experience with machining, casting, MIM, stamping, heat treating, coatings, or similar manufacturing processes.
  • ERP/PLM experience.
  • Experience leveraging AI or digital technologies to improve engineering or manufacturing processes.
Travel
  • Primarily Portland-based
  • Approximately 3–5 trips annually, including 1–2 international supplier visits
