The Salvation Army in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a part-time Store Associate to deliver friendly customer service, assist with donated goods, and manage the cash register. This role requires standing for long periods, lifting heavy items, and maintaining a neat store display.

You will handle pricing, sorting, and packaging purchases, balance cash at shift end, and help customers with questions while ensuring a safe, clean work environment. This position offers 25–28 hours weekly.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITYSchedule/Hours: M – S 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (25 - 28 hours per week)This position is responsible for:Responsible for delivery of excellent customer service while receiving and assisting with donated goods, keeping accurate counts of donations, cleaning, pricing, and sorting goods; while maintaining a clean and safe work area. Additionally, may assist store customers in selecting and purchasing store items; operates and maintains cash register; responds to customers questions; ensures the security of store items and the cash register.Key Responsibilities:Places and arranges items in the store as directed; checks all store displays to ensure that items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner; rotates and/or rearranges stock as directed; returns items to the proper location after customer's have handled.Selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing; discards items in accordance with established procedures.Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts change and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register print-outs; prepares and delivers bank deposits; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operating procedures, as needed.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Work requires the ability to lift and cany and/or push/pull heavy (over 501bs.) materials, supplies and equipment frequently.Heavy mobility duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching or transporting merchandise on frequent change basis relieved by fewer periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.Work is performed in a stock room, warehouse or store environment where there are discomforts associated with changes in weather.There are occasional discomforts associated with noise, crowds, dust, lint, chemical odors and the like.Employee Benefits:• Paid Time Off• Retirement Savings Plan Available• Supplemental Insurance Available• Voluntary Life Insurance and more!Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or G.E.D.Certifications/Licenses:None.Equal Opportunity Employer: Veterans | Disabled
