Job summary

The Salvation Army Sorting Room Supervisor oversees staff in the garments sorting and pricing area, ensuring adherence to policy, safety standards, accuracy of tagging and pricing, and consistent daily production. You will train, cross-train, and evaluate personnel, create schedules, and maintain records of attendance, output, and storage.

The role supports the ARC work-therapy program by modeling professional conduct and helping beneficiaries develop work habits.

Qualifications

Duties And Responsibilities


  • Efficiently utilize employees under your supervision. Train and cross train all personnel to prepare them for any task assigned.

  • Ensure that all merchandise is sorted, tagged, and priced according to policy. (tag fixed to top left-hand corner of garment; color coded tags are correct for the given week and dated accordingly, etc.).

  • Responsible for quality control and to ensure production of a minimum of ________ garments every day.

  • Maintain records – attendance, work schedules, production output, storage, quality, etc.

  • Conduct regular evaluations of employees, identifying performance strengths and areas of development. Recommend training as necessary. Prepare written warnings as needed.

  • Responsible for the care and proper use of equipment assigned to your area and to ensure a clean and safe work environment; processing area, storage area, and break area (if applicable). Create and post a clean-up schedule, dividing duties equally among personnel. Report unsafe conditions to supervisor.

  • Maintain inventory of necessary supplies (tags, staples, stapling machines, pliers, pricing guns, etc.), keeping in mind some of these supplies take days or weeks to receive.

  • Responsible for the collection and security of all jewelry, antiques, collectibles, and other items of value that are processed through the sorting operation. No merchandise is to be taken, given or loaned, except by the Administrator, to any employee or beneficiary.

  • This position will support the work therapy program component of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers by providing beneficiaries with an example of professional conduct and work habits.

  • Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or Administrator.

  • When providing work therapy supervision, evaluations for each beneficiary need to be completed and turned into the Administrator(s) and ARC Counselors monthly for placement in the beneficiary's file.

Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Supervisory and warehouse experience preferred.

  • Practical knowledge of processing and identifying clothing quality and price.

  • Ability to lead, manage and motivate others.
